Six of the world’s chartered institutes have today launched a new initiative to support, develop and promote the role that Chartered Accountants play throughout the global economy.

A new global network, Chartered Accountants Worldwide, will see the six institutes from Australia, England and
Wales, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and South Africa together demonstrate the vital role played Chartered Accountants in the global economy, and encouraging more people to consider chartered accountancy when training and when looking for financial expertise.

To celebrate the launch of Chartered Accountants Worldwide, the six founding bodies have launched “No ordinary Business Minds” - a new publication and website profiling Chartered Accountants, among them Irish Chartered Accountants, who hold influential positions around the world as business leaders, decision-makers and trusted advisers.

Chartered Accountants Ireland CEO Pat Costello explained: “In a world economy where there are many different types of accountants and qualifications, bringing clarity to what makes Chartered Accountants different, and the value that Chartered Accountants deliver is of central importance for the profession here. The career profiles described in today’s publication are as inspiring as they are impressive, and in the tough economic conditions in Ireland today, it is gratifying to be reminded that Irish Chartered Accountants are respected the world over.”

“As advisers, managers and leaders, Irish Chartered Accountants are at the heart of businesses around the world, and that is why I believe Chartered Accountants Worldwide is so important. For our 21,000 members, it opens the door to membership of a wider community of over 310,000 Chartered Accountants working in 180 countries. By working together, we will be able to create greater opportunity globally for our members.”

“As well as supporting our current members, investing in the training and development of the next generation of business leaders has to be a priority for our profession today, and I believe we need to make more of the unique opportunities a career in Chartered Accountancy offers in Ireland and abroad. We have to encourage future generations to recognise the opportunities that our profession offers, not just here but in whichever market they subsequently choose to work. We can draw on those in our community who have risen to the top to inspire those who are starting out on their career path.”

Chartered Accountants Worldwide will enable the six bodies to work more closely together on their common commitment to supporting and promoting Chartered Accountants as the standard of excellence in accountancy, finance and business.
