Customs - Passenger Duty Free Allowance Raised From 40 K to 1 lac for Ladies & 50 K For Men

Baggage Rules : Presently, under Rule 6 of the Baggage Rules, 1998, an Indian passenger, who has been residing abroad for over one year, is permitted to bring jewellery without payment of duty up to an aggregate value of Rs 10,000/- in case of a gentleman passenger and Rs 20,000/- in case of a lady passenger. Under Rule 8 of the Baggage Rules,1998, a person who is transferring his residence (Transfer of Residence) to India is also allowed to bring jewellery without payment of duty up to an aggregate value of Rs 10,000/- in case of a gentleman passenger and Rs 20,000/- in case of a lady passenger.

The duty free limits are being raised to Rs 50,000/- in case of a gentleman passenger and Rs 100,000/- in case of a lady passenger.
