Service tax: New Exemptions

The central government has amended the mega exemption notification 25/2012-ST to extend exemption from service tax to the following services:

·         Services of account opening, cash deposits, cash withdrawals, obtaining e-life certificate, and Aadhar seeding, provided by a business facilitator or a business correspondent, or by an intermediary to such facilitator or correspondent, to a banking company with respect to a Basic Savings Bank Deposit Account covered by Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in the banking company's rural area branch;

·         Service provided by a charitable trust or institution for advancement of yoga.

The changes have been made by notification 20/2015-ST dated 21 October 2015:
