Common Proficiency Test (CPT), which is mandatory for appearing the
chartered accountancy course, is likely to be scraped. A foundation
course will be introduced in place of CPT. This is revealed by M.
Devaraja Reddy, President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India
(ICAI) on
Friday in Kolkata. The decision is subject to government final approval.
The proposed foundation course would be conducted from November this year.
While the CPT examinations use to be conducted for 200 marks, the proposed foundation course will be for 400 marks for the candidate who cleared intermediate examination.
The candidates who passed B.Com with 55 %, B.Sc and engineering candidates with 60% marks can join CA course directly.
He has said that the proposal has been cleared by Ministry of Corporate Affairs and forwarded to Ministry of Law and Justice.
