With 3.50 lakh new Covid positive cases per day in India will ICAI be able to conduct CA exams in May 2021 on schedule?

 Well the situation on ground is very grim with hospitals running out of beds and oxygen in major cities as far as covid virus spread is concerned. The situation is much more worst than in April 2020. The lockdowns than had helped limit the spread but so called second wave of this pandemic has outnumbered the spread by five times what it was last year same time around. 

Students will clearly remember that last year May 2020 attempt had to be cancelled after multiple postponements by ICAI up to August 2020. ICAI than tried to conduct the November 2020 exams on

schedule but that too was postponed up to January 2021 with opt out option after much deliberations by student community. 

This time around the Covid scare is much severe than was in last year. Last year there was no shortage of oxygen the way it is in last few weeks. ICAI cannot afford to conduct exams of more than 3 lakh students across India amid such severe pandemic circumstances. Nor ICAI can leave students in splits with giving them option to opt out. With ICAI left with little choice but to postpone the exams altogether as were CMA exams postponed from June to July last week.

ICAI has also opened registration of foundation course exams scheduled in last week of June. With all schools and colleges remaining free from school and college exams due to automatic promotion of all students ICAI has some light of conducting exams in 2nd half of June only to be clashing with CS exams which ICSI has declared in this week that the same will not be postponed. It is now only a question of when will the exams be conducted after postponement than if the exams will be conducted on schedule.
