Trading is the principal trading and shipping business within the
Shell. It is made up of a network of independent companies that trade in
their own right, but also leverage the opportunities open to a global
organisation by sharing information, advice and best practice.
We
trade the equivalent of about 14 million barrels of oil per day - this
is made up of crude oil, refined products, chemicals, natural gas,
electrical power, biofuels and environmental products. With the skill
base and international scope to capitalise on trading opportunities
inherent in Shell's asset and market positions around the world, our key
trading and marketing operations are based in North and South America,
Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will lead a team of 3 located in
London and Houston and will be ultimately responsible for technical
accounting and risk (fair value) accounting for all global Shell Trading
entities. It’s a high profile role at the heart of our finance team.
Duties will include but not be exclusive to the following:-
- Provision of accounting guidance to operational accounting teams, Risk management and to Finance Managers regarding how to handle accounting issues.
- Design, maintain and report on complex hedge accounting structures, including use of complex models (such as regression) to determine hedge effectiveness and explain hedge results to upper finance and operational management.
- Interpret and implement new accounting pronouncements that impact trading, including disclosures
- Coordinate the technical accounting issues with the external auditors to support Shell Trading’s accounting opinions
- Review of fair valuation of illiquid contracts to determine if valuation reserves are needed.
- Ensure Shell Trading accounting policy is in line with Group IFRS requirements to ensure the accuracy of Shell Trading financial statements
Requirements:
We’re currently looking to recruit an exceptional Finance Manager to join the Finance team at Shell Trading in London.
You
will be a graduate, chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
trained within a large public accounting practice. Team leadership
experience is essential along with the demonstrable ability to work with
and influence senior Management. This is an ideal opportunity for
someone to utilise their technical and leadership training and develop
themselves into a business leader.
