“While there are only 2.4 lakh chartered accountants in the country, we need nearly five lakh professional accountants and the demand will grow by 25 per cent every year,” said P.V. Raja
Rajeswaran, chairman, Southern India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), Chennai.
Speaking at The Hindu Education Plus Career Counselling 2014, Mr.Raja Rajeswaran urged students to consider Chartered Accountancy as a good profession since it offered excellent job opportunities and scope for growth.
“Students should look at CA as an important professional course. There still exists the notion that medicine is the only option which is available,” he said.
A distance study
Throwing light on the field of study, Mr. Raja Rajeswaran said that it was a distance study which students could choose to pursue full time after Class XII alongside a correspondence undergraduate course.
“The ICAI places students after they become certified chartered accountants and they can expect to get a minimum of Rs.6 lakh per annum which is bound to increase across different sectors,” he said.
“There is no age limit to pursue the course and while chartered accountants can start private practice or work for the government, there are also many lucrative options available in the corporate sector,” he noted.
Elaborating on the subjects and the examinations that the students would have to face in CA, Mr. Raja Rajeswaran said the course was extremely affordable and would cost just about Rs.45,000 for four years.
Simple concepts
“Students are often under the impression that it is a very tough course. However, the concepts involved are simple and with the right focus, students should be able to crack it,” he added.
