Apple has activated its iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program after
discovering that a small percentage of iPhone 5 units are facing
problems due to shorter battery life and therefore require frequent
charging. Apple claims that only ‘limited series number’ range of iPhone
5 units are facing
this issue.
The iPhone 5 units facing battery issues were sold sometime between September of 2012 and January of 2013, and eligible for a free battery. To know if your iPhone 5 needs a battery replacement, simply insert the serial number on Apple’s replacement site. Users can then get a battery replacement via Apple Authorized Service Provider, Apple Retail Store or Apple Technical support.
According to Macrumours, iPhone 5 users who’ve already paid to get their batteries replaced are entitled to a refund. “Apple’s support site says the program covers iPhone 5 batteries for two years after the first retail sale of the unit or until March 1, 2015, whichever provides longer coverage, adds the report.
The replacement program has begun in the US and China, and it will extend to other countries on August 29. Besides, Apple is also offering a replacement program for iPhone 5 units that have a faulty sleep/wake button. This program entitles users to get the issue resolved without any additional cost.
