Third of ICAEW accountants looking to move jobs

One in five of those surveyed as part of the annual salary survey by ICAEW and recruitment firm Stott and May, say they are actively looking for a new job, while one in three say they are likely to begin looking within the next year.

The findings, released today, also showed that chartered accountants under 30 and those employed by larger companies are more likely to be considering a move.

These figures demonstrate an increase in confidence in career prospects in the profession, said
ICAEW commercial director Sharron Gunn.

“With more ICAEW chartered accountants considering a new job to progress their career, I think it indicates that people are feeling more secure about job opportunities and it is another sign of the economic recovery,” she said.

At 35%, career progression is cited as the biggest motivator for change, 26% say they are seeking an increase in salary and 18% would like to change jobs to achieve a better work life balance.

Scott & May's CEO Stephen Scott said, “These results demonstrate the increase in confidence and appetite for accountancy professionals to broaden their skills in the evolving economic transition.

“Finance professionals are woven into the fabric of industry and businesses are now better placed to take advantage of a more demanding range of opportunities.”
The survey found that the average annual basic salary in 2014 is £90,800, marginally down from £92,600 in 2013.
