BCAS Newsletter and VP's Communiqué

At the Society, we believe that a true professional is one who is a student all his life. The various programmes conducted by the Society for disseminating knowledge have been well received, thanks to the support of its dedicated members. The Workshop on Valuation, the Seminar on Cenvat Credit and Refunds of Service Tax, and the 3rd Residential Study Course on IFRS/Ind AS received a tremendous response. We even had to turn down the requests of several members due to space constraints at the venue!
However, we are not resting on our laurels and have scheduled many new programmes in the coming months, the details of which are given in this edition of the Newsletter.
I am happy to share that many reputed corporates became members of the Society last month. We appreciate the initiative of the members for having motivated their clients to take up the BCAS Corporate membership. We hope many more corporates to take up the Society’s membership with your support.
The BCAS Desk-Top Calendar 2012 had to be reprinted, thanks to an overwhelming response. I urge those of you, who have not yet booked, to buy them before they go out of stock.
As always, the Society is striving to meet the needs of members. One such effort is the recently released Journal CD, covering issues from April 2000 to March 2011. The new Journal CD has innovative features such as faster and accurate word search, multiple sorting options, etc. The most exciting feature of the CD is listening to the articles read aloud and these come with the pause, resume and stop features. I am sure this CD would be of great utility to members. The Journal CD will be available from the last week of December.
BCAS had earlier represented to CPC Bengaluru, in connection with adjustment of arrears against refunds due, without any intimation to the tax payer. CPC had acceded to the request of BCAS, and has started issuing the intimation. It has been noticed, that there are many non-existing arrears which have been wrongly communicated to CPC by the respective AOs. BCAS has recently made a representation to all the CCITs in Mumbai regarding the notices of arrears proposed to be adjusted against future refunds being received by a large number of taxpayers from CPC, Bengaluru. BCAS has requested that instructions be issued to all AOs that rectifications be carried out expeditiously of all cases of arrears wrongly uploaded on the CPC website. A copy of one such representation is available on BCAS website and has also been printed in the journal.
Last but not the least, BCAS takes this opportunity to wish you and your family a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
We thank our members who have opted to receive the newsletter by e-mail instead of the printed copy. The full newsletter is available on the BCAS website at the following URL:
