CHENNAI: S Mahalakshmi, a school topper in commerce stream, has a
dream: to become a chartered accountant (CA). But her financial
constraints had almost dissuaded her from working
towards her aim as CA coaching classes are quite expensive.
Now, she is hopeful again as she has joined free coaching classes offered by Anandam Charitable Trust at T Nagar. The trust, formed by a chartered accountant-company secretary S Sarathy and his family, started classes for economically poor students who have cleared Class 12 exams with outstanding marks.
The first attempt of the trust to help 15 students cross the first hurdle of clearing the entrance exam resulted in failure in April. "The trust is now preparing itself to coach students who are appearing for entrance as well as intermediate exams from August onwards. No fee is collected and students are asked to pay 1,000 initially as deposit and the amount is returned when they clear the exam," said Sarathy.
