PUNE : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Income
Tax Officer, Ward 58 (3), D Block, Vikas Bhawan, New Delhi and a
chartered accountant for allegedly demanding and
accepting an alleged
bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh from the complainant.\
CBI spokesperson in a statement issued on Thursday said a complaint was
registered under section 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code and 7 of
Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations that the Income
Tax officer and the chartered accountant were demanding Rs 3.5 lakh from
the complainant for favoring him in the scrutiny of his assessment case
for the year 2013-14.
The CBI after receiving complaint against the accused from the
complainant (name withheld) verified the genuineness of the information
after conducting a verification.
CBI officials then laid a trap and the Income Tax officer and CA were allegedly caught red-handed.
CBI conducted searches at the office and residential premises of the
accused. A cash of Rs 3 lakh (approx) was recovered during the personal
search of the accused officer.
Both the arrested accused are being produced in the designated court at Delhi on Thursday.
