Chhajed elected, Hegde out... Loya elimination as expected gave Chhajed a
big boost...274 2nds ..exactly as per our estimation! With this, former
WIRC Chairman Prafulla Chhajed pulls off one of the most remarkable
comebacks in ICAI Central Council election history..atleast in the last 5
elections ... He was just 1277 in first preference count, 242 votes
behind 11th placed Rajesh Loya and 4 places below! To come back from
such a big deficit and finally win quite convincingly shows the
popularity of Chhajed! As one of
the respected CAs of Mumbai told me
today, Prafulla is a "man of masses." He s worked very hard for this,
especially considering the fact that he was out of limelight after his
poor performance in 2009 Council elections... but many a times we tend
to forget some key people behind a candidate's success... in Prafulla's
case it was his close friend and former WIRC Chairman B.M. Agarwal, who
opted out of contesting this election and threw his full weight behind
his friend...it shows in the final result! Worth mentioning that BM
Agarwal was with Prafulla throughout the counting process... A big hand
for Prafulla and BM Agarwal's friendship! Ultimately its what elections
are all about.... a journey of self discovery , forging closer bonds
with friends and making new ones along the way! We will have the final
count post Loya and Hegde's elimination Sunday morning! For now, lets
hope that our 11 elected Council members from West do our profession
proud! Good night friends... Arun Giri !
