Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the Chartered Accountants' Day on Tuesday with a tweet congratulating CAs.
"I congratulate my CA friends on Chartered Accountants Day & convey my best wishes. They have a
crucial role to play in India's progress," said a tweet from the Prime Minister's Office.
The PMO also tweeted the link of a speech Modi delivered to students of chartered accountancy as Gujarat chief minister last year.
"It is well known that a doctor treats the diseases but few people know that a CA looks after the health of the society," he had said in his speech last year.
In a newspaper message to mark the day, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) said the institute had a student base of 8.5 lakh and 2.25-lakh members.
"Today ICAI commemorates the achievements, celebrates the contribution of CA professionals in the field of trade, public administration and every other part of social and economic life," the message said.
