Ennore Port Ltd will give a cash award of Rs 5 lakh to Prema
Jayakumar, daughter of an autorickshaw driver who topped the All-India
Chartered Accountancy Examination.
Prema hails from Tamil Nadu
and resides in Mumbai. Her father, who drives an auto in Mumbai,
belongs to Villupuram District in Tamil Nadu.
The Shipping Minister, G.K. Vasan, instructed Ennore Port to
present the cash award under its Corporate Social Responsibility
programme.
The cash award cheque will be presented to her by the Minister in Chennai shortly, says a press release issued by the port.
M Gnanasampath of Coimbatore has
done the city proud by securing the third rank in the Chartered
Accountancy examination conducted by the ICAI (Institute of Chartered
Accountants of India). He has scored 74.13 per cent.
The ICAI local Chapter Chairman K. Jalapathi said that 12
candidates had cleared both groups at this centre and 34 and 31 students
completed group I and II respectively.
At the all-India
level, 1,11,961 candidates are said to have appeared for CPT (Common
Proficiency Test) of which only 30,305 are said to have qualified,
registering a pass percentage of 27.
Similarly, 29,339 candidates are said to have appeared for both
groups in the CA final examination, of which only 3,804 had cleared both
groups successfully
