The aim of the Shell Business Service Centre, Chennai is to provide the Group with operational excellence through highlighting and utilizing process improvements and functional efficiencies as well as by leveraging economies of scale. Currently, the Chennai centre provides a wide range of finance, accounting and business services to Shell operating companies across several business sectors globally.
Set up in September 2007, the Chennai centre has grown rapidly and now, in its fourth year of operations, it has crossed the 1600 staff mark. The centre is located in the RMZ Millennia Business Park, where the Shell campus is a Leed Platinum building with world class infrastructure. The business is expected to grow further over the next two years and infrastructural additions to support this have been planned.
The main focus in Chennai is on Finance Operations which supports delivery of the global Finance functional plan. There is also a ‘Downstream India’ - Customer Services Team that handles lubricant depot ordering within the country. The Business Service Centre (BSC Team) manages the centre facilities and supports business partners’ operations on site. There is a strong focus at SBSC on safety & well being of staff and on its three core values: Compliance, Intervention & Respect.

Governance, Risk & Assurance function provides the clutch and brake support to the organization’s accelerated growth.
We assure a strong edifice of internal controls on which the Shell group relies, resulting in increased shareholder value. Leveraging on the integrated ‘One GRA’ approach, the sub divisions of design, deploy, migration, assurance and Governance & compliance, work correspondingly in ensuring a fit for purpose (design effective) controls framework, embedding the control framework, ensuring that controls are safely migrated to and embedded within Centre Finance Operations and aligned with Centre and Shell Controls Framework, sustaining effective and fit-for-purpose controls to support the Finance Operations Control framework and ensuring appropriate governance, assurance and risk management processes are in place; and Overall they work together to ensure 100% design effectiveness and 95% Operating effectiveness of internal controls.
• Manage the team to ensure that financial controls are tested and walked through for SOX purposes and to support the Centre Control framework.
• Manage RDS/SOX testing and sign-off facilitating the resolution of issues as needed.
• Manage internal assurance walkthrough process in the Centre
• Perform Quality Assurance reviews of all financial control activities under their responsibility as per QA Methodology
• Monitor progress of Assurance activities against plan and report regularly on progress to Sr. Assurance Manager
• Member of global Finance Operations SOX network – foster cross-centre support, specialization, knowledge sharing etc.
• Member of the Assurance Network
• Manage the process to confirm key non-SOX controls (including QA) and coordinate the half yearly Control Owner Confirmation process within the Centre.
• As a senior member of the GRA team, act as a back up to the Centre Assurance Manager
• Manage the change affecting RDS/FCM controls and support operations in re-design of controls if necessary.
• Manage standardization of controls in response to process standardization.
• Support Senior Assurance Manager re liaising with external/internal auditors and in reviewing, addressing and implementing audit findings.
• Provide training /presentation on testing, walkthrough, controls issues.
• Ensure that the control register is up-to-date and reflect the actual controls operated in the location.
• Develop and communicate to the key stakeholders an Annual plan for walkthrough of controls in line with the Finance Operations Control walkthrough guidelines.
• Ensure that all controls (incl SOX) operated in FO tested and reported as per the timeline specified in the Annual plan.
• Provide sound controls advice, which is fit for purpose and achieves sound balance of risk versus control.
Requirements:
• Graduate in Accounting
• Qualified Chartered Accountant withadditional qualifications such as CIA, CISA are preferred but not mandatory
• Minimum 4 years of post qualification experience in Statutory Audit/ internal audit/risk management areas in a reputable audit firm or in a medium to large corporate.
• Experience in leading a team
• Sound knowledge of internal controls/ internal Audit methodologies together with practical knowledge in this area.
