Need for making court proceedings paperless: Law Minister

November, 28th 2011
Law Minister Salman Khurshid today said courts in Delhi are a show window for the rest of the country and stressed upon the need for making court proceedings paperless. "Can we look for paperless Supreme Court," Khurshid asked on the occasion of the Law Day celebration here. Noting that countries like Brazil have taken a remarkable leap with court proceedings there becoming paperless, he said India needed to move in that direction. "This is a great challenge of our times," he said at the function attended by the Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia. The Law Minister said fresh initiatives and changes face opposition but that should not come in the way of taking progressive steps. To support his point, he gave example of the new FDI policy opening the retail sector to foreign direct investment. "There is a disagreement and it will be there and this has to be settled," he said while favouring that through negotiations and discussions things will be on track. Khurshid said that a churning was taking place in the world and people across the globe were looking towards India which has emerged as a "great saviour" in the times of crisis.
