NAGERCOIL: There is a huge demand for Chartered Accountants (CA) and
it is estimated that India will require another 5 lakh CAs by
2020.This was stated by C A Shanmukh Sundaram, chairman of Southern
India Regional Council of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of
India (SIRC of ICAI) here on Wednesday.
He was here to inaugurate the ‘One Village One CA’ programme, an
initiative to create awareness about CA course among school students,
ICAI, here.
“A total of 1,82,000 chartered accountants are there in the country
and we are the second largest accounting body in the world after the
US,” Sundaram said. He also pointed out that Indian CAs are not only
sought in India but other countries as well.
“In West Asia, over 50 per cent of the corporate are managed by Indian
CAs,” he noted. Sundaram added that they were taking initiatives to
create awareness among parents and students about the course.
“Of the total 6 lakh villages in our nation, 32,000 exist in Tamil
Nadu. There are 1,000 villages in Kanyakumari district alone, and the
aim is to produce at least one CA from each village in India,” said A
John Moris, the Coopted member of Career Counselling Committee of SIRC
of ICAI.
