ICAI to sign MoU with the University of Madras

It will offer B.Com., M.Com., and MBA programmes from the next academic year
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will enter into
a memorandum of understanding with University of Madras to offer
B.Com., M.Com., and MBA degree courses from the next academic year.
Talking to reporters, ICAI president G. Ramaswamy said here on
Wednesday, the proposed agreement would enable their students to get
postgraduate degree recognition from the university and discussions
would be concluded soon. It would be the second university in the
south to do so, after Bharathiar University.
Having signed MoUs with various accounting bodies such as England &
Wales, Canada and New Zealand, CPA Australia and CPA Ireland, the
Institute will sign pacts with its counterparts in Singapore and South
Africa, said Mr. Ramaswamy, who was elected as board member of
International Federation of Accountants in Berlin on November 17.
After a gap of five years, ICAI will conduct international conference
on ‘Accountancy profession: Leveraging emerging challenges for
inclusive growth' at Chennai Convention Centre on January 6 and 7. It
would be attended by over 2,500 delegates.
The issues of the conference are towards globalised accounting
framework; value creation through innovation and entrepreneurial
vision, professional and social panorama; and accountancy profession
among others.
“About 231 have enrolled for ICAI awards for excellence in financial
reporting, of which 15 firms will be given awards under various
categories on January 6. This year, the jury is chaired by former
Securities and Exchange Board of India chairman M. Damodaran,” he
said.
Prior to that the fifth annual corporate forum will be held in
Bangalore on December 9 and 10.
It would consist of career ascent, Gulf campus, corporate conclave,
financial services expo and ICAI awards-2011. Infosys chairman
Emeritus N.R. Narayana Murthy is the jury for the awards ceremony.
Suggestions invited
While inviting suggestions from the members for the ensuing Union
Budget, Mr. Ramaswamy said that it would be submitted to Central Board
for Excise and Customs by the month end. Besides, ICAI's take on black
money would be submitted to the Central Board of Direct Taxes by
January.
