Bhopal: Income tax department sleuths on Wednesday conducted raids at 60
premises across India of a well known road contractor Dilip Suryavanshi
and businessman Dr Sudhir Sharma, both very close to the BJP, and their
business partners, causing massive political ripples in the state
capital.
The sleuths conducted simultaneous raids at office and residential premises of Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL) and SR Group - close to the ruling party in the state. The raiding teams learnt to have seized Rs 5 crore, jewelleries worth several crores and other incriminating documents of money transaction from their possession. The raids are expected to continue till Thursday.
IT department sources said a 350-strong team of vigilance wing of the income tax department with police force raided 30 locations in Bhopal alone. Other places where raids were carried out included Indore, Jabalpur, Jhabua, Rajgarh in MP ,besides Delhi, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kokotta and Roorkee.
Proprietor of DBL, Dilip Suryawanshi is known for his close proximity with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and his family. The SR Group owner Dr Sudhir Sharma is not only state coordinator of BJP's state education cell, he is very close to higher and technical education minister Laxmikant Sharma.
The companies of Suryavanshi and Sharma came under the IT scanner after they paid grossly little IT returns despite astronomical growth in their businesses over the years, particularly during the BJP regime.
According to sources, DBL, which had a turnover of just Rs 13 crore in 2004, recorded an annual turnover of over Rs 1200 crore in its documents that came to the notice of the IT. However, the company did not deposit tax commensurably.
Besides being prominently in real estates and mining, ????the Dilip Buildcon is involved in education field. The group's companies nclude Shivam Medical & Research Institute Pvt. Ltd, ????Suryavanshi Minerals Pvt. Ltd, ????Dilip Mass Communication Pvt. Ltd, Suryavanshi Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd and High Fly Airlines Pvt. Ltd. The group has also registered over a dozen toll way companies under the flagship name of DBL Nadial Modas Toll way Limited.
Raids were also carried out in the residential premises of his partner Devendra Jain, who is brother of Ujjain IGP Upendra Jain, Raja Ghosh and his chattered accountant Sanjay Mehta at Indore. The company's 30 projects are underway while it has got approval for government projects worth Rs 5000 crores, mostly in BJP- ruled states Gujarat and Madhaya Pradesh.
The company also got projects from Uttarakhand government when BJP was in power. The Sudhir Sharma-promoted SR Group has also risen phenomenally in a short span of six years. The group ventured into mining, pharmaceutical, agriculture, education and IT- enabled services. The group owns VNS Institute of Technology, VNS Institute of Management, VNS Institute of Pharmacy, VNS Business School, VNS College of Physical Education and Pragyan College of Nursing in the education sector.
Its mining wing, SR Ferro Alloys, is an acknowledged leader in mining of manganese ore and production of ferro alloys. Manganese ore mines in Jhabua, iron ore mines in Jabalpur, bauxite mines at Rewa and calcite mines at Alirajpur make the group one of the fastest emerging leaders in mining sector, said official sources. SR Formulations India Private Limited and Shri Uttam Agro Industries (I) Pvt. Ltd are also emerging leaders in the respective field. The IT sleuths seized documents of 200 acres of land Sharma purchased for plantation at Ratibad among other documents of transactions. Senior IT officials refused to comment further on the raids, saying the operation is on and things would be figured out only after proper evaluation of the seized documents.
