Committee Chairmen announced; Sanjeev Maheshwari gets Accounting Standards Board, Board of Studies goes to Vijay Garg!
So our new ICAI President Subodh Agrawal has announced composition of various committees... it is important for a couple of reasons... hectic lobbying goes on for some these committees and allocation of the Committee Chairmanships gives a good hint of who had supported the incoming President in the previous
year's VP election! Here are the important committees and their Chairmen.. analysis follows below...
1. Accounting Standards Board ( ASB ) - Sanjeev Maheshwari
2. Board of Studies - Vijay Garg
3. Members in Industry - Vijay Gupta
4. Professional Development Committee - Pankaj Jain
5. Auditing & Assurance Standards Board - Abhijit Bandyopadhyay
6. Financial Reporting Review Board - Nilesh Vikamsey
Not all of the above supported Subodh Agrawal last year in VP election, but he has got the Committee Chairmanships reasonably spot on, save a few here or there... But my eyes will be on ASB, the most important committee in ICAI today ( atleast till NFRA comes in ) ... i am told that Santhanakrishnan ( SK ), who has been given Vice Chairmanship of ASB, was very eager to be the Chairman... but that is not to be. Sanjeev Maheshwari is a hard worker and can be expected to do a decent job, but he has a tough act to follow. Manoj Fadnis, as ASB Chairman over last 2 years, has done a great job of bring out the IND-AS. Also another point to note - there is absolutely no one in the Council who is even a patch on SK's knowledge/brilliance in Accounting Standards... So in a way Sanjeev Maheshwari will be on his toes!!
