Castrol India limited is a Public Limited company having a Turnover of over Rs 3500 crores and operating through four regional offices and three Manufacturing Plants across India. The business supplies products and services for both B2b and B2c business. . The annual indirect tax payment to Government by Castrol India Limited is Rs 1,100 crore and income tax of Rs 250 crore. Castrol India is part of the BP group.

The purpose of this role is to manage and comply with all aspects of VAT (value added tax) in all 27 states of India and engage internal and external stakeholders on tax laws and related assessment of economic opportunities and management of risks, including changing legislation.

This is G2 role and reports to Ravindra Gawande, Head Tax Castrol India Ltd
• Assuring tax compliance – Pan India – planning and monitoring to ensure management of proper and timely filing of tax returns, ensure that regular and provisional assessment are completed in time, optimise and manage indirect taxes for the company in an aggressive COC challenged environment.
• Litigation – Leading pan India litigation through review submissions, tribunal/court petitions and submissions in the matters requiring interpretation and application of Tax Laws, appearing at commissioner appeals/tribunal, briefing high court counsel/senior advocates.
• Tax Planning, devise processes and control for tax optimisation and risk management including enhancing reputation by ethical compliance.
• External stakeholders - Represent Castrol at various Judicial Authorities, Tribunals, High Courts with senior tax officials, other industry big player, industry association and Consultants.
• Internal stakeholders - Work closely with LSC, business managers to understand processes and partner in maximising value and manage risk in VAT pan India.
• Prioritising Tax efforts to focus on the most important issues. (addressing issues on the basis of financial impact, creditability to organisation, litigations, time bared assessments, opinions to internal stakes holders)
• Training and support to team and stakeholders - Developing and coaching to support staff on BP process & policies along with VAT & Service tax compliance process SOPs, extending additional assistance to other regions in case of urgency. To manage, utilise potential of team and aspire them to achieve great heights by supporting them to deliver better results
• Lead the formation and modification of key tax processes including compliance, related systems and automation of the same and provide appropriate support/guidance.

• Design and lay down and monitor pan India processes for MI and compliance and documentation improvement.
• Engage at senior levels with tax and appellate authorities who have revenue bias and arbitrary assessment to tax compliance, tax risk and protect reputation for compliance ethically.
• Leading and supporting tax team reports on development of technical/other capability and keep motivation high.
• Delivery advocacy e compliance in an adversarial tax environment within CoC/ Ethics framework.
M. Com / CA/ ICWA/ MBA/ LLB
Minimum 12 - 14 years’ experience in the field of indirect taxes of multiple states in a large manufacturing and sales organisation
• Add value in planning & implementation process during change of Law (eg VAT 2005, Service tax, GST 2014)
• Continue to support centralisation agenda for better controls and compliance
• Monitor and engage stakeholders for change in procedures and laws.

• Experience in managing and control of a large indirect tax portfolio and complex internal and external tax compliance
• Rich experiences on tax projects management & coordination. Ability to prioritize work load, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Bias for performance and growth in the organization.
• Disciplined and organized professional with good relationship management and ability to train and motivate subordinate team members and demonstrate leadership qualities which includes planning, managing, supervising assignments and training juniors in routine course of work
• Good communication skills are required to interface at all levels in the business community, with Tax and with external parties.
• Good organization / project management, attention to detail & the ability to multi-task, working with timelines.
• A proven ability to work as part of multi disciplinary teams and to build and maintain networks within and outside Tax
• The individual must be self-motivated, with an ability to contribute individually (work with minimal supervision) together with being a strong team player.
• Proven and relevant and recent experience in handling all indirect taxes.
• Experience in dealing with the tax authorities and financial auditors are essential along with strong negotiations skills.
