George Bernard Shaw said, "If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas. You don't have to blindly follow your boss. If you have an innovative idea, feel free to share it. He will appreciate it if it's worth it, also, you will gain confidence.
Make it a point to finish all your personal chores before entering the office premises. Reading the newspaper for half an hour in the office and spending another hour replying to your mails is not a very good idea. The worst you can do is to spend hours each day talking to HR consultants about other job options and sending them your resume using office facilities. This is an act which can put you in the list of completely shameless employees.
A saying goes - "Wherever you are, be there." Stay focused, only when your consciousness is totally focused on the moment you are in can you receive whatever gift, lesson, or delight that moment has to offer. Being physically present in the office is not enough. It is useless, if your mind is wandering miles away on some thought which is not related to your present duties. Focus on your work, it will help you attain 100 per cent results.
Interact with the correct people in the office. It doesn't mean being with most senior or powerful people. Good mind can make you attain high levels of success. You may have it but there is always a scope for betterment. Be in the company of creative people. Interacting with them will make you learn more and in turn your performance will become better. There is no limit for mental refinement, there is always room for upgradation.
Whenever you are given a duty, there is a deadline attached to it. Completing the work assigned to you on time is essential. Your superiors rely on you and feel that you are fit for taking responsibilities. If you are not able to meet deadlines, the essence of your efforts dies. Work with proper planning and coordinate with your colleagues if it is a group work. Work with total commitment and nobody can stop you from meeting the deadlines.
The office timing is a protocol which should be strictly followed by all employees. Punctuality is a mode of self discipline which can take you places. Promptitude is not only a duty, but also a part of good manners; it is favourable to fortune, reputation, influence and usefulness. A little attention will make it an easy and delightful habit. It is a stern value of men of business, the best way to give and gain respect.
Next to your home, office is the place you where you spend most of your day. Maintain friendly terms with your colleagues, it reflects on your work. In a warm and friendly environment you are able to fully concentrate on your work. Positive vibes improves the results Your body gets an inner fuel, an energy to perform. Good relationships are always welcome.
At the end of the day, spend some time with yourself. Do things that relax you. Read a book, smell the flowers, play with the kids… But wait, can you please spare 5 minutes? Think about what you did throughout the day, assess, could you do better than that? If you realise the gaps between your actual and standard level of performance, work out a plan. Be equipped to perform better the next day.
