Mr. V S Datey's views on DTC in 2013-14 & GST in 2015-16

 

Mr. V S Datey says that I am not astrologer but my views are as follows -

 

1. DTC :  There is no specific opposition from political side or industry side and we can expect DTC by 1-4-2013

 

2. GST : The chances of GST have brightened after Mr Shushil Kumar Modi of BJP has become Chairman of Empowered Committee. From his actions and statements, he seems to be committed to GST and he will try to bring GST by 1-4-2013. (The reason is that in 2014 BJP is hoping of coming in power and knows that if they come to power, what they are presently doing to Congress in respect of GST, Congress will do the same to them)

Dr. Sanjiv Agarwal states that  While I feel that GST may not come before 2015, 2014 being election year and 2012/13 seems a distant dream , DTC may come in 2013 or in piecemeal in 2012 also.

Mr. Omkar N.G., of AT&S India Pvt. Ltd. Says that he 100% agrees with your views on DTC. But for GST, I feel can be effective by FY 2014-15. No specific reason as such. 

Query : Considering that GST is fraught with controversy and opposition from small traders, would a weakened Congress Govt. have the courage to force implementation in the pre-election year (2013, as elections are due in 2014) when budget may be please all populist budget ?

 

Fact that no legislation has been introduced in 2012, ensures nothing is coming in 2012.

 

Is it possible that Congress Govts. In state may go ahead and wait for opposition state govts. to join later, as happened in VAT ?
