The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organized its 62nd Annual Function on 11th February, 2012 at New Delhi wherein Dr. M.Veerappa Moily, Hon’ble Union Minister of Corporate Affairs was the Chief Guest. CA. G. Ramaswamy, President, ICAI, ,CA.Jaydeep N.Shah, Vice-President, ICAI ,CA.Rajesh Sharma,Chairman, NIRC and Shri T. Karthikeyan, Secretary ICAI were present during the function. Padmashri CA.Y.H.Malegam and Padmashri CA.T.N.Manoharan, Past Presidents of ICAI also graced the occasion besides other dignitaries. The function was attended by more than 1100 members, students and other dignitaries.
During the function the rank holders of CA Examinations of different levels were bestowed with Merit Certificates by the Chief Guest.
CA. G. Ramaswamy, President, ICAI while addressing the gathering stated “ The CA’s are called conscious keepers of business. Our profession inspires perseverance and responsibility quite significantly through its training & practice”. He added “Our fundamental responsibility is to safeguard the public & national interest.”
He also shared some of the major achievements and initiatives taken by ICAI during the year 2011-12.Some of them are listed below:-
Recommendations submitted to Election Commission of India on Uniform Accounting Framework for Political Parties.
Group constituted to provide inputs to effectively address the menace of black money and related issues.
Report submitted to the Ministry of HRD on implementation of Accounting Standards in educational institutions.
Investor Awareness Programmes organised to create awareness amongst the general public.
Project ‘Parivartan’ launched to facilitate easy online accessibility to all academic and professional services.
Proposal submitted for Independent Information Audits to be made mandatory for all co-operative agencies and NGOs.
A new website www.icai.org.in launched to provide a platform to the CA Firms to upload and share their firms’ details thereby enabling the SMEs & SMPs to expand their visibility and explore new opportunities.
Launch of ICAI Web TV for supporting continued education of professionals.
Launch of new softwares - ‘ICAI-Tax Suite’ (Tax Compliance software), ‘ICAI- ROC (MCA-21Compliance software) and ICAI-XBRL software.
Establishment of well equipped IT Labs at almost all regional offices and branches.
Launch of Subject-wise Online Self Assessment Test for CPT.
CPT Online Registration facility for registration and course fee online payment 24x7.
Signing of MOU with Madras University for Graduation & Post Graduation Courses
Dr. M.Veerappa Moliy, Hon’ble Union Minister of Corporate Affairs in his address complimented the efforts of the ICAI in the growth and development of India.
He said “The accounting profession, perceptibly is playing a dynamic role in ensuring stability & sustainability of the national growth.”
He also praised the multifaceted role played by the ICAI i.e. as an education provider, a standard-setter with a focus on multi-dimensional abilities to render services so as to make the Indian Chartered Accountants a global brand and a Regulator. He praised ICAI for taking a number of initiatives towards setting up of ethical guidelines and standards, re-enforcing its commitment for improving the quality of functions being undertaken by its members. He said that this definitely sends good signal to the stake holders in the element of the work being carried out by the Chartered Accountants. He also added that the Institute should constantly enhance its regulatory role and take appropriate action to avoid any mal-practices related to profession. He appreciated the efforts of ICAI to groom the members as total business solution providers.
CA.Jaydeep N.Shah, Vice-President while delivering Vote of Thanks assured that all steps would be taken to uphold public confidence in the Institute and ICAI will always act in the public interest and maintain the values of excellence, independence, integrity and quality that the Institute stands for.
