Courses for valuers for updating legal knowledge

Madurai, Oct. 10:
The Institution of Valuers is planning to offer courses for valuers in
the country to keep them updated in the profession, said Mr
P.K.Thiagarajan, National President, here.

Speaking to Business Line on the sidelines of a two-day national
seminar on ‘Perspective view on asset valuation' organised by the
Madurai branch, he said that the role of accredited valuers across the
country has become significant and gained momentum with 22,500
qualified valuers and 44 branches. Proper integration of valuers with
the banking system is being pursued.

The institution has been laying emphasis on ethical behaviour with
true valuation on date of reporting without being given to extraneous
considerations. As there are many Acts in operation in different
fields, the valuers need to gain legal knowledge and the nuances that
are attached to them while performing their duties. As such, the
institution is planning to update their knowledge by organising
courses for them, he said.

Asked about allowing foreign valuers to practice in the country and
Indian valuers being allowed to practice abroad, he said that all such
issues are under discussion and would resolved by 2015.
