Today I received a Newsletter published by Committee for Members in Industry (CMII) of ICAI. (copy attached).
I was also co-opted member of CMII at WIRC around 2-3 years back. In the past, I have worked with few committees of regional council and branches of ICAI. We have recruited many professionals including CAs, MBAs and Engineers for our organization.
Now I wish to bring few facts on the subject:
1. Please refer to page no. 4 of newsletter. The para below photo mentions that only three companies participated in CAREER ASCENT program in Bangalore on 9th Dec.2011.
2. On page 10, it is mentioned that in Feb / March 2011, out of 5375 candidates, only 1876 candidates were offered jobs in campus recruitment.
3. On the same page, it says out of 1562 CAs, only 41 were selected by SMEs and the highest package offered was Rs 8.00 lacs (only to few candidates… perhaps) In 2009, we had seen this package offered to fresh CAs by many companies.
4. On page 12 of the newsletter, it is mentioned that out of 10317 fresh qualified CAs, only about 1250+ people were offered the job.
The figures are really disappointing !!
On the other hand, we are in search of CAs / professionals for our team, but are unable to find the suitable candidates.
In past few months, I interviewed few rank holders – CAs who are unemployed for more than one year, but I could not offer them job in my company due to reasons attributable to them.
In my opinion, it’s not recession, but the deteriorated quality of candidates, hence they remain jobless or are getting poor packages.
After reading the newsletter, I thought to express my concern, hence this mail.
My sincere appeal to all concerned including my professional friends who are planning to contest elections of the Council to consider the issue and improve the quality and standards of training and education.
