I-T searches on four major hospitals, broker's premises

INDORE: In a major action, investigation wing of the income tax (I-T) department began search operations on 35 premises of four big city-based hospitals from Friday morning. The hospitals, where searches are being conducted include Life Care Hospital (Vijay Nagar), Vishesh Hospital (near Gita Bhawan), CHL Hospital (AB Road) and Noble Hospital (South Tukoganj), sources said. While LCH is owned by Dr Brajwala Tiwari, Dr Rajesh Jain happens to be the director of both CHL and Noble. Vishesh Hospital is owned by Dr Girish Kawthekar.

It is supposed to be the biggest action by the department in the city so far. The search operations are likely to conclude by Sunday. More than 300 officials of the department and 150 policemen are pressed into carrying out operations, which began at 8 am, source said.

Director general of I-T and head of state unit of the wing Amarendra Tiwari is monitoring operations, sources said. More than 150 vehicles are being used by officials of the I-T department for searches, which are being undertaken in Ujjain and Ratlam apart from Indore.

Several incriminating documents have been recovered from the different premises, where searches were carried out. Taxmen expect that the searches would throw up tax evasion to the tune of several crores.

The income tax department normally chooses the festive season for conduct of searches, because it is the time when the stocks are found to be full to their brim at businessmen's premises.

The search operations are also being conducted by the sleuths of the department on the home premises of Sonu Agrawal at Phooti Kothi Road, who happens to work as a personal staff of Sunil Tiwari, husband of Dr Tiwari. Sunil Tiwari works as assistant regional transport officer (ARTO) in Indore. Tiwari's house, which is adjacent to his wife's hospital, was also raided during the searches.

Apart from it, search operations are also being conducted at the premises of a city-based money lenders, Kailash Bhatia and Ashok Bhatia at their office located at Radha Nagar Colony.

Searches have also been conducted at the house of secretary of MP Garment Traders' Association, Ashish Nigam. Search also took place at the premises of city-based firm, Hearth and Heal Pvt Ltd, owned by Manish Sanghvi, added the sources.
